Follow these steps and recommendations on how to take photos of your patient's face to obtain a good quality and accurate face 3D model.

    Device

    • Although you can use any device (phone, tablet or camera), it is recommended to use a smartphone.
    • If you are using an iPhone, use the back camera with format High Efficiency.
    • Hold the device steady. If applicable, use a tripod to avoid unwanted movements.
    • Make sure the device is vertically as upright as possible.

    Room and light

    • Uniform light.
    • Avoid shadows and shades. Pay special attention to the shadows under the eyes or on the neck.
    • Avoid a busy background or with unwanted objects to obtain clear contours and shapes.

    Accessories, hair, make-up, clothes

    • Remove glasses and jewelry.
    • Take the hair off your patients' face and shoulders; if needed, ask them to tie it back.
    • Make-up can distort the appearance of the skin, lips or eyes. Ask patients to remove it.
    • No clothes can be covering or hiding the neck.

    Pose and position

    • Take the photos approximately 1 meter away from the patient.
    • Ask them to maintain a neutral expression in all photos and keep their eyes looking straight ahead in every photo.

    Frame and angle

    • Make sure that each photo includes the full head and the shoulders.
    • Left and right side pictures must be taken from a 90° angle, while the front picture is taken with the patient right in front of the camera. If you are creating a high accuracy face 3D you must also take two 45° angle photos. Also take a photo from below, as similar as possible to the examples shown.

    Photos

    • Take three photos (Front - Left - Right) as similar as possible to the examples presented on the relevant face 3D simulation screen. For highe accuracy 3Ds, 6 photos are needed.
